This 1964 Datsun Fairlady Convertible won Best in Class in the 1500 Pre-’63 Roadster category at the 33rd Annual Solvang Datsun Roadster Classic in Solvang, California. Held on the last Saturday of April since its 1987 inception, the Solvang event has attained Mecca status for Datsun lovers from all over the world, and a class win at this venue is a truly prestigious accomplishment, one reflected in the quality of this expertly restored prizewinner. The comprehensive restoration completed on this rare Datsun classic included such items as a new chromed grille insert, rechromed hubcaps and an extensive rewiring of the car’s electrical components. The interior and trunk area were restored with new, red, leather hides, all hand-stitched to replicate the original pieces. The convertible frame was rechromed, new wood bows were made to replace the existing pieces, and a new, matching, red cloth top was fitted.

Mechanical upgrades were also part of the restoration process, most notably the 1500cc high-performance inline-4 engine built by Datsun engine specialists Rebello Racing, fitted with Jim Tyler stainless steel exhaust and mated to a 4-speed manual transmission rebuilt and upgraded with a first gear synchro by Ross Mullen. The front suspension was rebuilt using front springs by Mike Young, another recognized Datsun expert. Presenting beautifully in Light Gray paint and showing just 15 miles since its completion, this concours-winning Datsun Fairlady is offered with the refurbished, original, matching numbers engine block.
