THE BACKGROUND

Now spanning five generations of evolution, the Supra has been a flagship model for Toyota, being the pinnacle of their sports car offerings. Toyota is steeped in motorsport heritage and cult loyalty, but the Supra holds a special place in the JDM fan’s heart, with regular appearances in movies and races worldwide.

Originally sold as the Celica Supra, the first generation was based largely on the Celica with changes made to accommodate the inline 6, making the car just 5” longer. It wasn’t until the third generation that the bond between Supra and Celica was severed as the Supra took on a life of its own.

It wasn’t until the fourth generation however until the car reach cult status, sharing its platform with the Soarer but being 13” shorter. It featured the exposed headlights in place of pop-ups and that holy grail power plant that has had so much development during its time, you’d have to try very hard to not get a face bending amount of power out of it.

In production for 9 years the name Supra was derived from the Latin prefix meaning “above”, “to surpass” or “go beyond” and in everything this car did, it went above and beyond whilst surpassing any expectations anyone had of it.

THE HISTORY

Given the demand of the Mk4 Supra, its uncommon to see these cars on the market, but it’s a rarity to see such a prime example of a clean, original Mk4 like this hit the market. This is undoubtedly a phenomenal opportunity to turn heads and join the JDM scene with this impeccable car.

With the nature of JDM vehicles and their appeal, and cult status, within the tuner community, its very rare to locate an original, to factory specification, Mk4 Supra. Whether it be added into a JDM collection or a tuning enthusiast, the appeal of Mk4 Supra knows no bounds, and this vehicle in particular is a great opportunity to own this exceptional 90s icon.

They purchased this car from a dealer in London needing some love and care with regards to tired paintwork and having sat for a few years, to get it back to the condition it’s in today.

There has been no expense spared on this example with various parts restored, rebuilt and replaced completing the restoration with a complete glass out bare metal respray, nonconforming metals replaced, with the metal work resembling the day the vehicle came off the production line.

All major servicing work has been completed, with any perishable replaced and any work needed to bring it back to factory condition. The current owner has enjoyed the car after restoring it to factory condition and now feels it’s time to pass it on to pursue another car.

There is a full, comprehensive history packet that comes with the car documenting all the work that has been completed on the car during the current owner’s time as well as previous records for the car.

In addition, the factory alloy wheels have been refurbished with new tyres, Hankook’s on the front and Generals on the rear. A rear fog light has been installed into the rear lights, so the car remains factory but with dual filament bulbs, still using the factory stalk to turn on/off with the front fog lights, along with a light indicator on the dash.

The vehicle has had 4 previous owners and benefits from a long MOT, expiring July 2022 with no advisories, only adding to the vehicles appeal. The vehicle is also confirmed as HPI clear.

THE INTERIOR

The interior of the Supra, after it’s recondition has resulted in a near showroom quality of finish for the Toyota. The current owner has clearly taken fantastic care of the car with the attention to detail being paramount. The black leather interior has no nicks, tears, stains or any wear whatsoever and all the trim inside is seemingly new or as good as.

Hard to find fault at all inside this Supra as the owner has taken such great pride in returning this iconic car to a fantastic condition.

THE EXTERIOR

The paintwork is simply a refresh of the original colour and suits the sports car down to the ground. The red and silver of the wheels contrasts nicely, especially when highlighted with the gold accents from the front and rear Toyota badges.

Again, it’s hard to find fault out here as well, the profile of these cars is known to every 90’s petrolhead worth his salt, and the rear ‘picnic table’ wing out the back is not just there for decoration. It is a good thing the rear of the Supra looks so good, because with the aerodynamic profile coupled with the legendary 2JZ drive train, the rear was what most motorists would be looking at on the road.

THE MECHANICS

Perhaps the most famous engine in the world, the 2JZ was the 3.0L powerplant that every JDM fan boy would dream about getting their hands on. Coming from the Toyota factory in an enormously over engineered state this engine was rumoured to be capable of enormous power outputs with stock internals.

The drive train in this car has been given a thorough going over to make sure it lives up to its reputation of legendary reliability. No expense has been spared when making sure this engine is up to full health and as such it should be good for a very, very long while yet.

Everything works as it should on this car, and due to the owners care and attention to the car, prospective buyers should feel at ease thinking of any mechanical issues that might arise.

THE APPEAL

Slingshot into stardom with Paul Walker and Vin Diesel in the Fast and the Furious titles, the Supra was pegged as the star car capable of taking on the best America had to offer and holding its own. It became a 90’s kids dream car that was still within reach, even though the prices of these cars have largely increased in recent times, they are still on the up, holding strong values.

If that’s not a reason to get your hands on one as soon as possible then the fact that this legendary car is widely regarded to be the best version of the Supra to date and having one in your garage should be a bucket list item.
